Day-out trip from Budapest I. – Gödöllő
Gödöllő and its wonderful Royal Palace, which was used and loved by the Habsburg Imperial Family, and the world-famous queen known as Sissi, is only 50 minutes away by the green suburban railway from the Budapest hotels and the city centre.
The Royal Palace with its gorgeous baroque façade and enormous park is a must see!
The Palace was built in the 18th century, with a double U shape, and contains a church, a theatre, a riding-hall, a hothouse and a wonderful greenhouse for flowers and orangery. The whole building went under reconstruction in 1991, and besides the exhibition presenting the life of the Imperial Family in the castle, the Grand Hall on the first floor is a perfect venue for concerts. You can even enjoy just a single night or concert here while staying in your Budapest hotel for the night. They organise concert festivals, theatrical plays, gastronomy festivals, all through the year, majestic advent palace days around Christmas, and riding competitions. The 26-hectare park with its botanical garden was declared a nature reserve in 1998, and the botanical curiosities are always appreciated by visitors. In the Palace we recommend you to try the delicious coffee and cakes in the café.
Now, that Hungary is taking the role of EU presidency, the Royal Palace became one of the official venues for many programmes, but you can still pay a visit. The presidency lasts until July 2011, so you can plan your visit ahead, book your accommodation in a lovely Budapest hotel and come enjoy this beautiful palace!
