Budapest – a popular meeting destination
The ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) ranks the world’s most popular association meeting destinations.
The absolute number one in Europe is not surprisingly Germany. However, ICCA also says, that Budapest, Prague and Warsaw are also rising on the list, especially now, that the number of quality hotels are also increasing in Budapest.
ICCA carried out a survey based on more than 8000 events that took place in 2009. The most important criteria for the meetings were that they were organised by international associations, took place on a regular basis and rotated between minimum 3 different countries. Budapest shares almost the same advantage as Germany, namely that both countries have central location, which is quite useful for international companies.
Although Vienna is also a champion city for hosting international association meetings in 2009, the price of hotels are more expensive than in Budapest. Vienna is popular, because of the professional organisation and the language proficiency, and Budapest needs to improve in both areas. However, in the coming years, there is a governmental wish to increase the number of international meetings organised in Budapest, and this is why more and more Budapest hotels are renovated and developed to better meet international standards and requirements.
Besides infrastructure, Budapest also has a great attraction to offer: its spa culture, which all event organisers like to point at. Every meeting offer cultural programs, and besides the numerous wonderful attractions of Budapest, the wine cellars, the Opera House, the most popular sights are always the frequented Budapest spas.
