City park (Városliget)

Do not think it is a simple green park with flowers and ducks!

Because the Budapest City Park - Városliget is packed with things to do and places to see. The park was the main venue of the millennium celebrations in 1896.Behind Heroes' Square lies the ice-skating rink which is a lake in the summer with boats for rent. Since 1996, the ice-skating rink gives home to speed-skating championships. -Budapest Zoo with its ornate Art Nouveau entance all kids favourite. It opened in 1866.
-The Municipal Circus, where the first performance was held in 1891 - since then, 125 shows were held, with 15500 performances and over 25 million viewers.
Furthermore the citypark (In Hungarian: Városliget) includes various sights recommended, such as the famous and popular Széchenyi Bath, the notable Museum of Fine Arts, the Vajdahunyad Castle and the Gundel Restaurant – just to name a few.

The City Park offers a great place to walk around, hire a paddle-boat on the pond in the summer, or ice skating in the winter. All in all, this place has a charming atmosphere in every kind of season and weather.

If you feel like sinking into culture, you can enjoy the gorgeous exhibitions in the Museum of  Fine Arts on one side of Heroes’ Square, or modern, contemporary art in the Art Gallery on the other side. Behind these museums you will easily find the picturesque Vajdahunyad castle, set in a beautiful garden with a little pond and statues around it. This palace, as all guidebooks like to mention, is the exact copy of another castle situated in Transylvania.

If you would like some lighter entertainment, we highly recommend you to pay a visit to the world-famous Circus, the Amusement park, or the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden, not to mention Petőfi Csarnok which is a great party place with popular concerts every night.
The best thing about the City Park is that you can easily explore on your own and find numerous kinds of sights, even without a Budapest guidebook in your hand.
