In 2006 the world-famous Travel & Leisure magazine chose this fair in Budapest as one of the top ten best events on the European Continent – no doubt every guide boasts about this fact! But seriously, this Fair is one of the favorite advent and Christmas events in Europe: with its festive atmosphere, traditional Hungarian handmade products and sensational delicacies to try. It is a must-see in Budapest, all the guides recommends it in unison, and added to this fact: last year more than 600 thousand people visited this fair.

The reason for its ongoing popularity is that only handmade products of high quality are for sale. There are about 143 wooden booths in which craftsmen are selling their handmade goods. The location of the Christmas Fair is well-chosen: it is placed on Vörösmarty ter, at the end of the famous Vaci utca which is the main shopping area in Budapest.

And we also need to mention the fascinating and tasty specialties which cannot be missed while visiting Budapest. All the food served here are traditional: there is fried dough (langos) baked in a stone oven, tasty baked meat and sausages – just to name a few. As dessert we highly recommend that you try the sweet cake, the so-called “kürtöskalács” and the ginger cakes, not to mention the delicious hot-wine, which comes in a uniquely designed cup, that you can take home as a souvenir.

Beside the Fair, there are also thousands of cultural programs and the Budapest Advent Calendar made of famous paintings in the windows of the Gerbeaud Café House. The windows open up every day at 5 pm with beautiful bells ringing - a must-see!
